According to an authorized source at Bank Al-Maghrib (The central Moroccan bank), Changpeng Zhao (CZ) , Binance CEO and the founder of one of the most important cryptocurrency exchange platforms, met with the teams of the Central Bank before having a brief exchange with the Governor, Abdellatif Jouahri.
The visit of Binance CEO (CZ) caused quite a stir, especially since he announced nothing nor hinted at the reasons for his presence in Morocco. The only indicator of his travel to the Kingdom is a few seconds long video, taken from a car at the entrance of Casablanca. This video, in which the Technopark is visible, was posted on his Twitter account on July 14th.
According to an authorized source at Bank Al-Maghrib, Changpeng Zhao met with the business teams of the Central Bank for an exchange session. “It’s the first one, in fact,” our source said. Binance CEO was subsequently received by the Governor, Abdellatif Jouahri, for a quick meeting where he discussed various topics. After having long resisted cryptocurrencies, the Central Bank has begun substantial work on a project to regulate crypto-assets.
During the last press briefing following the June Council of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), the Central Bank’s governor stated that a draft law was being developed. An internal commission and sub-commissions are working on the file. This work is done based on a benchmark of other central banks, and with the technical support of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
